Starcraft: DIMAGA upsets Strelok at WCG Ukraine

By: Lucas Bigham - Published September 01, 2008 at 2:31 PM EDT - Writer Archive
Dima "DIMAGA" Filipchuk narrowly defeated Eugin "Strelok" Oparyshev Sunday in Kiev at WCG Ukraine 2008.
The final game of the tournament required all five games played before an outcome was decided. In this close series, the zerg would prevail and Dima "DIMAGA" Filipchuk is Ukraine's representative for Starcraft. Eugin "Strelok" Oparyshev has yet again just barely missed qualifying by finishing in second.

Since the beginning of 2008, Filipchuk was relatively unknown outside of Ukraine, but after several key victories in Brood War Massacres League and MYM's King of the Hill, he has become more popular.

The up-and-comer Filipchuk was able to pass through most of the bracket and onto the winners finals where he would face Sergey "hannigan" Mischenko.

The veterans Oparyshev and Igor "fraer" Turchin were forced into the losers bracket finals, each with hopes securing a win to remain in contention.

Last years defending champion Oleksii "White-Ra" Krupnyk was eliminated during the quarter finals by Sasha "ALF" Yatsenko.

Mischenko finished in third place and Turchin took forth.
