Call Of Duty: EG hold court over the NA CoD4 Top Ten

By: Kyle Feeley - Published May 08, 2008 at 4:32 PM EDT - Writer Archive
The first official North American Call of Duty 4 top ten list is presented by GotFrag. Some familiar names and a few surprises make appearances.
It has been almost one year since the North American Call of Duty team rankings were last updated. As you are well aware, the state of the top ten is subject to change on a near weekly basis, never mind an entire year. With that in mind, the Call of Duty 4 rankings will be updated far more frequently. An effort will be made to update the list on a near-monthly basis following league finishes, tournaments, and LAN events. Perhaps one of the most interesting observations after a quick glance at the old CoD2 list is that eight of those ten organizations are nowhere to be found on the CoD4 list. The list as you see it today reflects the state of North American Call of Duty 4 immediately following the culmination of CEVO-Professional s1. Without further wait, here is the first official NA CoD4 top ten:

It should come as no surprise that the top two vote getters are Evil Geniuses and Team Pandemic respectively. This pair finished one and two in CEVO-Professional and frequent the top ranks in other competitions. EG entered the CEVO-Professional playoffs as a fairly substantial underdog yet they overcame roster difficulties and brought home the title. This talented display coupled with a second place NERV finish and a third place i33 finish catapulted EG straight to the top with 13 of 18 first place votes. The race was not particularly close between EG and Pandemic, but the latter did garner more than two thirds of the second place votes keeping them well ahead of the third place vote getter.

Speaking of that number three spot, Nexus brings in the honor although one could argue they would have finished higher had they not fallen apart before the CEVO postseason. Nexus had everything going for them: an undefeated LAN victory, a first round CEVO-P bye, and even a CAL finals appearance. Whether it was poor timing or simply unavoidable, what happened to Nexus is in the past and they have continued to push onward with new acquisitions and appear as strong as they have ever been. A strong TGL run and a good showing at NERV 2 could rocket Nexus right back to the top of this list.

The numbers start to become interesting as we work our way into the number four spot. The Guardians nudged out MoB Gaming even though they were left off of several lists due to recent inactivity. A similar situation occurred a year ago when Fivestar brought in enough votes to make the list soon after declaring themselves dead. For 90% of the lists they did appear on, Guardians scored a top four spot while MoB Gaming was named a top four team less frequently. With a new lineup and an increased determination, MoB have set their sights on continued improvement and seek to settle some debts in the coming months. Coming in at number six is PowerHouse Gaming. Here is a club that is known equally for their stability and their competitive consistency. With the recent acquisition of flak, PHG is poised to stake a claim in the top five. In seventh is Frag Dominant, a team that has, for all intents and purposes, been together for about five matches. Nevertheless, the team did make CEVO-P playoffs and is looking to start off strong in TGL-P.

Rounding out the list is Focal, Dynamo, and Team Dynamic in eighth, ninth and tenth respectively. Focal finished CEVO-P at 7-8, had a strong showing in CAL-main, and are preparing for the upcoming NERV event. Dynamo and Dynamic are the only CEVO-Amateur teams to make an appearance on the list but nobody can deny the talent these two sides possess. Recently, Dynamo scored a TGL win over Pandemic while Dynamic fell just short in overtime against Evil Geniuses. Now that they are competing against other strong teams, they are likely to grow in experience and notoriety. Just outside of the top ten were MoB Deep and Nefarious.
