There has been talks for quite awhile about some nostalgic returns to our past-loved games. CoD1 had a tournament in which teams and players of old played for pride and fun, what we should be playing for in a game. Now we have risen CoD2 from the depths of the sea to save us from what CoD5 hasn't brought us, playable comp. maps, comp. commands(/record, /demo), and interesting/innovative gameplay. We have followed the series all the way through with the understanding that each game COULD be competitive, and CoD5 has shown to me that this understanding was wrong. CoD5 , although good in some aspects, is not very strong for competition, and doesn't show very much promise on the developer side (Trey Arch :[). Call of Duty 2, on the otherhand, is quite ready for competition to be resumed! Not only that, but we can make certain changes to CoD2 to make it interesting! CoD2, although dead at the moment, has a good opportunity to be pushed to the head of the list. This push will need volunteers from every discipline of the internet! Here I will list certain aspect in which CoD2 NEEDS to be able to succeed in even the slightest bit.
1. Community Following We have to convince our fellow players that this move to CoD2 is the right one. Will we have competitions for money? Will we have some sort of change to freshen up the game? Will it be the better game to go to instead of CoD5? How are we going to be better than what CoD5 is or could be? We get the following once we show its the greater choice.
2. New Maps Maps in CoD2 have been the best maps for competition in the series, and there is no doubt about that. Although they are good, we still need someone to be a map maker and either make their own map, or port over another map from one of the other series and make it CoD2 themed. Maps like Strike, Crash would work. Also an idea would be to take maps from CoD5 and mod it for competition.
3. LANs and Competition Who is going to pick up CoD2 after it has been asleep for so long? TGL, FGL, CEVO, and CAL are all leagues that we need. Make CoD2 everywhere. Also, CoD has always been a community game with strong community loyalty, or else it would've died awhile back; we need our community LANs to step up (NERV, CZ, ETCETC).
4. Exposure and News We need a team of people who are going to be committed to CoD2 news. I don't mean hackett writing the world by himself, I am talking about 3-4 people that are all capable of writing articles, writing on competitions, and making innovative articles that are fun to read. These same people NEED to be in GotFrag?, without this we won't get very far. So please , if anyone could volunteer on writing I-views, organizing Gotfrag CoD2 events, or anything it would help this IMMENSELY.
5. Welcome Back Event There needs to be a Welcome Back tournament in which everyone can participate in. This tournament needs to be held by Gotfrag or CEVO.(Media+competition Giants) This Welcome Back tournament, if not ran by Gotfrag, needs to be IMMENSELY covered by GotFrag?
6. New Mod, New Features New MOD! Not new, but improved at least. We need a MOD in which the smoke is not placed to JUST the shotgun, and that it can be chosen as a limited weapon(1 smoke per team). This will get rid of the needed use of the shotgun.(WE can get rid of that nub weapon). This MOD can also have features such as stat recording, CoDTV, and other improvements.
This is all possible really, and with all of this we can have ourselves another living and breathing game to play. Number 4 is the most important, WE NEED PEOPLE TO WRITE NEWS GUYS OR WE WILL BE BACK TO TWIDDLING OUR THUMBS WONDERING WHAT COD TO PLAY! Don't be inactive, help support the game you guys have been dying to play again. This is all possible fellahs, I've seen harder things happen(WSVG CoD2). Long live.
I think keith is right about the reality that CoD5 cannot be played on SD. This is a big turn off to a lot of teams. Some people are a fan of a flag gametype, and some aren't, so by doing that you are creating that same split you are using as an argument to not go back to cod2. The only other option besides moving to cod2 is to hope that the new promod for CoD4 is so good that it makes the game that much more desirable in the NA scene.
Orph is rite. Its going to split us. I don't know why every one says its a terrible game? Because no /record? There is a patch coming and I'm sure its in there. This game has been out for a week and people are complaining... We don't even have a official mod yet because the mod tools haven't been out yet. Give it 2 weeks..
ALL WE NEED IS A PB UPDATE for Cod2 or an anti-cheat tool like Aequitas from ESL :> that would pwn the slo/hun hackers and make cod2 competitive again!!

#7 In Europe, it's the same, CoD4 is a borring game now. But, a lot of people want a step back in cod2. WHY NOT!? If you want a cod2 comeback all top europeans and american teams have to find an arengement. The decision for the future of Cod community is in that way. Narbore, teams like yours have to communicate with europeans top teams. Not only with D1ablo, you have to speak with all players in top teams like D1ablo,. The community will follow you if you have a real project. But this project, have to be build with real interested people, like Karl, who is the most engaged person in Europe for a comeback in a competitive cod2. To conclude, top teams must determinate one CoD and only one! The community have to be completely.

If it could be a perfect world Everyone would like CoD5, I actually enjoy it(maps are bad though), and this whole thing wouldn't be here. But Treyarch released a game which A LOT of people in the NA community really dislike. If you have seen my past posts, I hate CoD2. But its better than CoD5 :/

Find a new game to play, there is no way going back to COD2 will work. You guys will have some small tournaments, and there will be people who commit to play at first. Then they will realize how terrible they are at the game and quit. You guys wont have many teams and the game wont attract new players.
They should have never released CoD5 so soon, and this current CoD5 should only have been considered as a single player game, rather than multiplayer.

If they come out with a better promod for CoD4 then stick with that and both CoD2.
Whoever said this was splitting the community, it's not. Think about it, they gave us 4 choices for CoD games, followed through 1,2,4,5.
CoD 2 & 4 are pretty decent and respected in their own ways, hence one is bolt action (ww2) and the other being modern warfare. Keep both games competitive.
Well. If you want cod2 to get back on it's feet, you have to innovate it. Because what #19 said will happen. There will be just too much to learn for newcomers, and they will leave for new games.
Good things to change around in cod2 would probably be... - make skope less powerful, aka take away hold-breath (cod1) - if theres a way - fix clipping bug - add a bit of recoil to mg's (goes along with nerfing scope) - fix PB so it doesnt lag PC's (having this issue atm)(got a conspiration theory on that)
These are major faults @ cod2. Cheaters, clippers, and too damn easy scoping.
Doing these changes will make old players reach for new skill, and new players will at least get a chance to go with the flow. Otherwise it's like putting a guy, who has never played quake3 aside a 4-5 year experienced pro, and telling the noob to START liking the game. He wont, cause he'll always lose. The only way he'd like it, would be a shortage of games - q3 would have to be the only game in the world.
And #19, there are no alternatives. There are no new GOOD games being released for competitive play. None of them click. What's wrong with going to old games, that have DECENT graphics, and innovating them a little, to give more kicks ?
For me, it's really hard to imagine people playing on default cod2 ruleset servers, and then going to some PRO servers where things are harder to do, and fancying that, but hasn't pam done this already ? Pam takes away scopes, shotguns, pam takes away nades, people dont put antilag on pam servers, but people still go there.
Heck, I come from q3, and I am FOR antilag, but is it really THAT broken ?

Exactly. There is no viable way to create a large competitive community from CoD. There is no money in it at all. And if you are going to play the game competitively for fun and rather than for money then it shouldnt matter who goes to what league. People have only played CoD4 because of the money for it. No one would have left for CoD4 had CEVO stayed with CoD2.
Play which ever version you like the best. Maybe there will be enough people to play it with you to have money made from it but in all reality, there is little money to be had in any of the games, regardless of which one is chosen.

Exactly. There is no viable way to create a large competitive community from CoD. There is no money in it at all. And if you are going to play the game competitively for fun and rather than for money then it shouldnt matter who goes to what league. People have only played CoD4 because of the money for it. No one would have left for CoD4 had CEVO stayed with CoD2.
Play which ever version you like the best. Maybe there will be enough people to play it with you to have money made from it but in all reality, there is little money to be had in any of the games, regardless of which one is chosen.
